Les critères de qualité de l\u2019eau de surface sont déterminés en fonction de la dureté du cours d\u2019eau récepteur. Ces critères servent à porter un jugement sur la qualité des eaux de surface et ils sont à la base des critères d\u2019eau souterraine servant à évaluer la qualité des eaux souterraines faisant résurgence en eau de surface. Finalement, ils sont l\u2019élément clé du calcul des objectifs environnementaux de rejet (OER) servant à évaluer la qualité des rejets d\u2019eaux usées au milieu aquatique. Pour un rejet qui se fait sur une base annuelle, on retient généralement la dureté médiane du plan d\u2019eau récepteur pour le calcul des critères de qualité de l\u2019eau pour la vie aquatique.",
